The Dangerous Dogs Act was amended in May 2014 and the law applies to all dog owners in England and Wales.
It is a criminal offence for anyone in charge of a dog to allow it to be dangerously out of control in a public space or private property, allowing the police or local authority powers to seize a dangerously out of control dog in a public or private place. It is also a criminal offence for a dog to attack an assistance dog (guide dog).
In order to assist your claim to try to find out the following information:
- The name of the dog breed
- The identity of the dog owner
- The address where the dog/owner lives
- If anyone else has been bitten or attacked by the same dog
- If the dog has behaved aggressively before.
