E. v Italy – Cross-jurisdiction conspiracy to traffic drugs
Have you got a question?
Our Gitana Megvine, Ruta Mikailaite at Oracle Solicitors and Hannah Hinton from Drystone Chambers succeeded in a discharge of a warrant issued by Italy to return Ms E. for an investigation of a major cross-jurisdiction conspiracy to traffic drugs.
To preserve the client’s reputation and impeccable character was paramount in this case from the outset, as our client was a female with no previous criminal records.
We teamed up with Italian lawyers in order to discharge the warrant in Italy. We argued and sought to demonstrate that there was no decision to charge and try our client in Italy. We worked for over a year and succeeded in having finally the warrant discharged. As such we prevented Ms E. from being extradited to Italy avoid detention pending trial for many months we exposed the weaknesses of the prosecutor’s evidence against her and the faults in the Italian investigation.
We worked very hard and successfully preserved the client’s liberty and her good reputation, clean criminal record and established private life in the UK.
