The problems with DIY online Wills
Have you got a question?
High Court inheritance disputes between family members have jumped 62% in two years, as more people opt to use do-it-yourself will-writing services. There were 368 disputes about probate — the legal process for executing a will — in the High Court last year, up from 282 in 2017 and 227 the year before.
The rise is due to growing numbers of people writing their own wills that include errors and omissions. Low-cost DIY kits are advertised online for as little as £9.99, yet writing a will can be a legal minefield.
Family members are also more often trying to distribute the deceased’s assets themselves rather than taking professional advice.
Law Society president Christina Blacklaws added: ‘With the range of different estates and circumstances that exist, it is vitally important people consult a professional when writing their will. Probate law is complex and DIY wills can easily contain mistakes which render them illegitimate or difficult to administer.’
Over the years we have assisted our clients in managing their family affairs and advised them on all aspects of wills, trusts and related matters. A will enables you to decide and direct what will happen to your money, property and possessions upon your death.
Our experienced lawyers deal with these types of cases with tact and diplomacy to achieve the best result for you. If you need a will or assistance contact Oracle Solicitors on info@oraclelawglobal.com or 020 3051 5060.
